The House of Chanel (Chanel S.A.) originated in 1909, when Gabrielle Chanel opened a millinery shop at 160 Boulevard Malesherbes. As the founder of the House, Gabrielle Chanel is not just the renowned couturier Coco Chanel. Her passionate nature, her audacity and her avant-garde approach made her a multi-faceted character.
The history of Chanel fragrance began with No 5. In 1921, creator Ernest Beaux chose jasmine from Grasse for the legendary composition. Considered the birthplace of perfumery, Grasse flowers quickly became the raw materials of chioce for the finest perfumers. Chanel continues the partnership today, with fields of jasmine, rose and more, exclusively reserved for Chanel fragrances.
